seduced by a sock

I have been completely seduced by knitting my first sock. I'm three quarters of the way through, now working on the rounds before the toe decreases. It's been a challenge, with the odd mistake, but I can see now how it all comes together.

I've compared notes with Pipany, and had much-needed guidance at my knitting group.

I'm using an easy sock pattern by Opal (kindly emailed to me by Sally Anne) and 3mm dpns with Regia Kaffe Fassett yarn in Landscape Storm.

I'm hoping sock number two will be an improvement - no 'ladders' at the join between one dpn and the next, and better shaping when I turn the heel.

I can see how one pair will lead to the next...and the next.....and the next....

And I've also fallen for this song. Love the video too - especially that beautiful nearly empty house. And the lighting.

Socks are very seductive, especially knitted in such beautifully coloured yarn.

I found these tips helpful, especially the suggestion about "forward switching", knitting an extra two stitches onto the needle as you knit around. No more ladders!

Your sock is so beautiful! I'm terribly impressed.

I took a sock knitting course about a year ago and would love to take it up again, but I think I've forgotten everything I learned. Could you possibly email me the pattern?

And thank you so much for the link to the yarn. I've been looking everywhere for a sock yarn that makes nice wide stripes, and this looks absolutely perfect.

Will be checking out the CD on iTunes as well. Lovely (both song and video).

The wool is much more beautiful than the the acrylic yarn that I am using for my blanket. I am useless at knitting. I find it dificult to control two needles and I need a third hand to wrap the wool around! If I could knit I would knit socks! Yours are coming on a treat.

That yarn, and the sock are really lovely - I didn't know such interesting yarns existed!

I saw that wool at my local wool shop and thought it looked beautiful but I just can't get my head round sock knitting, I'm a very easy pattern only type of girl so you are making me very green with sock envy!!! Can't wait to see the finished pair. (Thanks also for your lovely comment on my pages - yes I feel very lucky at the moment).

Oh Diana, it is lovely. Well done you clever thing. I hhave finished sock one and yes, there is a blasted ladder where I thought i had been so careful. Humph. I almost wept with the frustration of it and found toe grafting a challenge too because of my impatience. I intend to look up a demo online when it comes to the next toe (I think I am becoming a sock bore!!!!) Hope you are having a good week xxx

I knitted one sock when I was in 5th grade of my primary school and thought it was a real torture and don't remember one bit of how to do it. Now I wish I did. Your sock is beautiful and so is the yearn. Your knitting needles are very special also.

You keep being an inspiration to me and I now I will take up knitting again soon. I am green with envy at your creations and see myself making them. Thanks for showing us your work. It is very inspiring and will lead to many people taking up knitting themselves.

Looks like a sock sensation!
Great colours by the way.
I just hope Walter does not develop a sudden desire to chew them up :o

I love your sock, such beautiful yarn, I'll definitely have to get some of that. Don't develop 'second sock syndrome' though!

fellow sock knitter.......
the yarn i am currently using is by Sirdar and is from their Crofter range - i went for a cheaper yarn option because i am a complete novice when it comes to socks!!
the thought of having to undo, time and time again, lovely expensive yarn was a big no no for me - saying that - i am delighted with the yarn and would buy it again....
i have the pattern book and like everything in it - which is rare....
i am much in admiration of both you and Pipany and am watching your sock progress closely :)
have you seen the new Etsy shop over at Lily's House - the link is on my blog - beautiful, beautiful yarny goodies!

p.s - LOVE the pics of Walter in the snow x
p.p.s - agree with you on Dragon Yarns.

Beware - anyone who has ever knitted a sock appears to go and knit enough for an army.

This is a stupid question, but, only last week I realised that knitting with that type of wool would give you a stripey sock (is that right?) When do you know when the stripe will start, or does it not matter cos round?

I think I have already warned you of sock addiction Diana...I have a pair on the go all the time..I suggest you try the german self patterning wool...which make you look very clever as they come out looking like fairisle ( forgot how to spell that?) and treat your self to some yummy ebony needles..they are bliss...happy knitting...H
