pinecones

Does anyone else love pinecones?

I can't resist picking them up when I'm out walking in the woods, stuffing my pockets to overflowing. I love their woody fragrance, so evocative of autumn, and evenings gathered around a fire. And I love how each pinecone is a little work of art in its own right, so intricate and beautiful.

Isn't nature a wonderful thing? And then there's these amazing pinecones.

This one is nestled on my hot-off-the-needles fingerless mitts* - pattern available here, using this wool. They're a lovely snug fit, and the rainbow colours brighten up a grey day.

*actually, only mitt two is hot-off-the-needles. Seems I suffer from second mitt syndrome as well as second sock syndrome.

Ooh yes, a bowl of pinecones sitting by the fireplace - lovely!

Start with the second mitt/sock in order to overcome second mitt/sock syndrome. Leave the first sock/mitt (which is the fun bit) until last and this will encourage you to finish.

Oh me too Diana! Second mitt syndrome that is. Sighs deeply in annoyance.

beautiful pinecone images. I love to use some of them on the fire. The light they give off is just amazing. Look forward to our meet up - SOON!!! xx

I suffer from I wish I could knit syndrome! I love pinecones too. I like to see them open and close depending on if the weather is wet or dry. x

Don't tell anyone, but I brought a HUGE pine cone home from Italy a few years ago - it is stunning!
I love the mitts and the yarn. I'm just finishing off a crochet scarf using it...maybe I need some gloves to match.
I like Alice's idea about knitting syndromes too!

I am desperate for a few cones as they are apparently great for lighting fires....my only reservation is some of the little creatures that inhabit them.

Pinecones remind me of christmas -when I was at nursery school... and you'd cover them in glue and glitter and stick them onto cut log slaps and then add a candle...thanks for bringing that memory back! :) xxx

I'm still looking for my perfect pinecone match... More of an acorn woman myself I think. Love the suggestion from alice c by the way.

Dear Diana
Thank you for your lovely comment today! So pleased to hear you are a "November' fan too. I have some Gocco news!!!! Exciting! We bought a second hand kit with ever so many inks included - all the way from Japan! It is the same model as yours. I am delighted, not least because it is secondhand (Challenge and all that stuff!) - it will be my Birthday or Christmas present, so I've been very good and only checked the contents so far....
Thank you for all your Gocco help!
Happy days

Pinecones remind me of my childhood: Pine trees on the foreshore.
Pinecones also remind me of my dog: he loves to rumage through the undergrowth for them at the in-laws, and then eats them! :)

You're right they are little works of art. They have spirals on the bases too and those little woody 'petals' are strong and fragile at the same time.

I love the shiny, glossy conker too. And acorns... oh and fiery red leaves that seem to burn up with their own colour.

Yes, I love pinecones. They remind me of my childhood. My mum, brother and I would walk through the pine woods, and over the pine roots, collecting them for our open fire. I have a little selection which I display in wintertime. x

Ooh the reason I love pinecones, apart from their lovely smell is their pattern. I get a thrill from finding them too. Your mitty knitting is very very lovely and easy on the eye.

I am a pinecone addict! I have two on my desk at work from the park across the road. Every now and then I have to have a pine cone clearout!!
