paper source

I've been wanting to get some glassine paper in sheets, to use for wrapping. Sadly, my local supplier closed their warehouse before I could get my toe through the door. However, I have sourced the next best thing.

Waxed paper from my local butchers. Lovely thick large sheets, which they buy in by the ream. They were very happy to sell me a little bundle for a nominal fee, even though they did raise an eyebrow or two when I said I wanted it for wrapping parcels of the present variety, as opposed to food....

One of my obsessions is glassine envelopes and paper….photographic suppliers and also achieve/conservation suppliers sell it but the prohibitive bit is the postage and the quantities you have to order.
I have thought about using greased proof paper….
Now you just need to buy some of the butchers string and you will have it all sorted:)

Ooooohhhhh!!! Lovely, lovely paper. If only I had a local butchers to buy some! I bet it feels wonderful to wrap with. x

What a totally brilliant idea! Only trouble around these parts is finding a proper butchers shop - supermarkets have driven most of them out of town!! I have used French Newspapers in the past for gift wrapping - I thought it was inspiring, my friends just think i'm nuts (and cheap!!)

Diana, get thee to a museum and ask the conservator (phone first to see if they actually have a conservator!) and ask where they get glassine paper for conservation purposes. The Museums Journal must have loads of sources advertising, I'll have a look.

Still if you can get it from the stout yeoman butcher... at a nominal fee and get your meat in at the same time... I'd be tempted to stay with this!

The verification word is where you can get organic brats - brateria.

hello Diana

I always like to read the effect we creative sorts have on 'ordinary' folks - with our imaginative ideas! :D The paper sounds like a jolly good plan to me and looks like a great texture!

Sending love
