pebbles

It's no secret that I love pebbles, and often come home from a beach walk with my pockets stuffed. But there is one place I occasionally visit where taking pebbles is a criminal offence. They're also the sort of pebbles you would just love to take home and pile in your garden.

Porth Nanven, near St Just, on the north coast of Penwith, is tucked away at the end of a secluded valley in an area rich with the relics of mining's heritage. As the cliff erodes, the huge granite boulders are exposed, until eventually they fall and join those carpeting the tiny cove.

We came here on sunday afternoon for a walk down the valley and a potter in the sunshine.

There aren't many things that please me more than relaxing on a giant pebble listening to the sounds of the sea tumbling over the rocks, while being warmed by the gentle heat of the afternoon sun.

It was a memorable Easter sunday.

I'd be impressed if anyone could snaffle one of those huge ones and put it into the car without being spotted - not that I'm suggesting you would, obviously!!!!

I looked at the pebbles in all their different colours and thought 'they look alive' and they seemed to change into deeply prehistoric animals slowly making their way down to the sea...

(sorry - I haven't really lost it..)

ooh they are lovely, I can see why people would want them. I love collecting pebbles too, but at the moment am in a bit of a driftwood collecting phase, much to the despair of my family, who weren't at all impressed tonight that I suggested that they could walk home from the beach so I could fit a huge piece of wood in the car with the seats folded down.... they won........

I just love those English beaches with all the pebbles, the waves sound fantastic rushing across them. I have a pebble that I treasure from a beach in the Isle of Man, from a holiday visiting my great Aunty in 2001 :-)

I love pebbles too, but they never look as nice when you get them home do they? They look so much brighter on the beach. Hope you're enjoying this fab weather! x

I always thought attractive pebbles were too good to leave on the beach, but these are best left where they are. If I ever visit Porth Nanven, I will just have to content myself with looking not nicking!
