doodling

I always seem to have a pile of books out from the library - usually a mix of craft, interiors, knitting, novels, gardening/nature, and food. In my latest pile was this book, written by the duo who own this place. One of the things I loved (apart from the inspiring interiors and innovative re-interpretation of reclaimed materials) was the endpapers, which were covered in doodles of everyday household objects, old and new.

They reminded me of a few months back in 2008 when I would doodle for five minutes every night at bedtime. I would dearly love to be able to draw and sketch 'properly' - but what I see in my head is never quite the same as what I produce on the page. Mostly, I was drawing randomly, from an image I was conjuring up - like these cards.

One night I decided to draw 'Pedro', my favourite childhood toy (more on him another time) who now lives in my bedroom. In case you're wondering, he's a donkey. And I like donkeys. The doodle of the little dog in the book reminded me of my own doodles - and how good it is to pick up pen and paper and just have a go, regardless of the outcome.

...reply to blog comments. I've always tried to, but I'm just not managing it at the moment, and I'm letting it go while I keep up with everything else that's going on. I'm feeling such a strong pull to be outside, and away from the computer. It's good to have a break, step outdoors and just breathe. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to visit here - thank you! I'm sure the balance will change again soon.

cute doodle - Diana sometimes I think you are far too hard on yourself, you are a woman of many talents... and let it be known I have worked with professional designers who can't actually draw well at all, but are great visualisers and manage to get what is in their head into reality with great success. Enjoy the outdoors - I too am not feeling like talking much on my blog, more photographs I think! Cxx

The outside is certainly beckoning but I just wish it would warm up a little.

I think your doodles are wonderful, and they ooze character. Personally I don't like perfect doodles and I sometimes doodle with my left hand instead, as the outcome is much more interesting.

Have fun with it, you're good at it and dont worry about responding to people, we all need to take a breather at times!

Take care

I have not 'doodled' for ages. I think I might start again! Enjoy being outside Diana. It is definitely 'inside' weather where I am at the moment! x

With some warmer weather promised Diana I'm with you on the need to spend more time outside.

I think you will agree, blogging is rewarding and fun but can sometimes feel all-consuming! I'm having difficulty keeping up at the momen,t especially with the really prolific bloggers! So may just follow your lead and take a back seat too.

Enjoy the outdoors and your garden project too.

I dont mind if you dont reply, its always quite difficult to know what the right blog etiquette is....visit the blog of the person who left a comment and leave one or email, then some dont work and you get noblogger.com or something. I think everyone is busy and I feel leaving posts are for the pleasure of others..if they comment thats lovely and if you can its so nice to get a reply but some people get so manny comments it must be hard to keep up...sorry rambling...I hope you are well..love H

Ha, I am feeling exactly the same at the moment. Sometimes it's good have a total break from the cumputer and just BE.
I'm with The Time To Dance on the comments too.
Love your doodles Diana, and an artist friend once said to me, if I wanted my drawing to improve I should make time every day to practise...just drawing anything at all !

I hope there is no stress on the outside and it is garden, friends, family and enjoyment that are calling x

The doodles are wonderful. And how funny my eye was drawn to the push-along dog straight away, even before I scrolled down the page and saw your donkey!

And I know just what you mean about comment replies. I've been feeling the same push-pull keeping up with the blog in general and comments in particular lately...
