soapy

I've found a new-to-me favourite soap. It's full of invigorating herbs grown by a local herbalist, and is made by soap-maker Jean Barry, who has a shop in Penzance. Her workshop is in a converted and restored barn just outside St Just, on the Tinner's Way, a path which follows the ancient route taken by the tin miners to transport copper and tin from the mines on the cliffs around Botallack, to the waiting ships in St Ives.

This soap is bursting with the fragrant smell of thyme, and is my go-to soap for my morning shower.

I'm pausing now until next week - a family visit beckons. When I get back I can finally share a project very dear to my heart, which I've frustratingly had to keep under wraps since Christmas!

Mmm! I love the smell of thyme. Sounds like the perfect start to the day.

Hope you have a super visit home and fingers crossed you'll have more time next time for a catch-up :)

Very intrigued by the secret project!

I have never tried thyme soap - it sounds invigorating.

That image of St Michael's Mount is beautiful. We've spent a couple of holidays on the Lizard in the past. It's such a good place to be.

Could I ask, do you know how I could get in touch with the painter (and ex teacher of mine) Sally Corbett - you posted images of her daffodil prints a while ago. She doesn't seem have a website - just her name and an image or two. Here's hoping x

Fine soap is, as Dorcas Lane might've said in Lark Rise to Candleford, "My one weakness"! I love fine soap and have since I was a child. My (late) mother used Cyclax Skin Soap and yet everyone I mention this to can't remember it. It came in purple and silver paper and was a sort-of brownish colour, but smelled wonderful.
I also love Floris soap but favourite of all are some soaps I buy in a healthfood shop and are from France. They are honey soap, almond soap, and lavender soap. Each time I use one of them it becomes a favourite. They don't have a 'make' stamped on them, but the honey soap is oblong and has the design of a honey bee impressed into it.

Ooh, I can almost smell it! Interesting to read about the soap maker's workshop as my husband's ancestors were Cornish tin miners.
