I managed to break one of the stalks on the way home, so this flower head has gently unfolded and collapsed in a bowl of water over several days. Such beauty. I'm not sure of the variety - possibly Rip City or Chat Noir. I'm enjoying watching it slowly disintegrate.

Postcard :: dahlia
I bought a huge bunch of dahlias for a £1 from a farmer's roadside stall... a riot of colour with lots of the deep red/almost black ones which I love.

I managed to break one of the stalks on the way home, so this flower head has gently unfolded and collapsed in a bowl of water over several days. Such beauty. I'm not sure of the variety - possibly Rip City or Chat Noir. I'm enjoying watching it slowly disintegrate.

Very pretty. I think all our flowers in the garden are disintegrating today in the pouring rain.
Great photo.
(By the way, I love your blog name. It was what made me click on the link on someone's bloglist to see what you were all about. You live in a beautiful part of the world.)
I like the contrast in colour between the red petals and the blue bowl. Each petal is interesting to look at in its own right. Fab photo.
You certainly took a great photograph of it. That bowl is very pretty too. I have a bowl of pebbles, that's what made me click on your blog's name.
I love dahlias - it is not very fashionable but I just love the colours and shapes.
Oh I think dahlias are very fashionable!
Rip city.
Besutiful photo,

Stunning!
I love these dark dahlias too, and the dark foliage some have. The whole bunch together must look lovely. I do this with camelia flowers, they are prone to falling off the stem, and far too nice just to throw onto the compost heap. x
Hi Diana
Do you ever go to the open days at Varfell Farm where they hold the National Collection of Dahlias. My cousin David started the collection many years ago, long before it went to Winchester Growers. The poms are my favourite just so small and dainty.

Wonderful picture and what a stunning colour dahlia. I remember my Dad growing them when I was little and storing the tubers in the garage to over winter, don't remember his being such an amazing colour though!
Beautiful - it hardly looks real! Dahlias make me think of my Grandad and very happy memories of being in his allotment. He used to bring armfuls home for my Gran.
I'm a recent convert to dahlias - having inherited some in my newish garden....they seem such 'grown-up' proper flowers somehow - so I am stunned that they have - bless their hearts - come up again this year with no help from me (and in fact a lot of hindrance). That colour is stunning.

Rip City is my favourite dahlia; the colour is so intense. I'm not sure mine have survived this year, but my local nursery always have pick-your-own for weeks...
