A subtle reminder to have a peaceful day? It worked for me, despite being very busy.

golowan flags

Remember last year's golowan flags decorating the prom? This year's flags are still flapping in the wind, brightening up the seafront.




Each year an army of helpers and seamstresses gather together to create new and vibrant flags to brighten up the town for our two-week Golowan festival. With luck, the ones on the prom remain all summer. I love the blast of colour, especially on a grey day.

It's rather wet here this week, and when this is the view outside


there's no place like home.


I do love the sound of rain - the rhythm, the repetition, the pitter patter pitter patter of raindrops on rooftops. I don't even mind getting wet occasionally, but draw the line at the daily drenching. Come back summer!

"Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing,
wind braces up, and snow is exhilarating;
there is no such thing as bad weather,
only different kinds of good weather."

I've never knowingly sown borage seeds in my garden.


Luckily these beautiful flowers have graced me with their presence anyway.

raindrops on nasturtiums

That title doesn't quite have the ring of raindrops on roses does it? Never mind. A promising sunny start to the day accompanied my early morning Walter walk but by coffee break time the sea mists rolled in, bringing a grey damp drizzle.

I could do without the rain, but it does collect beautifully in tiny pools on my nasturtium leaves, which are currently rambling all over my garden. Such beauty in something so simple.

gocco giveaway

Last month I was part of the one : gocco swap organized by Sarah at cloth.paper.string. The theme was 'one' - one image, one word, one screen. And to then interpret that how you like. Taking my doodles as a starting point, and my love of the cornish hedgerows and their abundance of wildflowers and weeds, I created a very simple sketch. In fact, this is more like the shadow of the hedgerow, as all detail is lost and I'm simply showing the outlines and form.


One image, one colour, one cornish hedge. I printed notecards, all on recycled card stock (some plain white, some banana paper, and some brown craft, plus envelopes), and these little packages have been posted off to my swap partners in Glasgow, Australia and the US. In return, I'm receiving some lovely goodies in the mail.

I also have some of mine spare, so thought it was time for a giveaway - a little set of five cards with envelopes, to one lucky person. Leave a comment, and I'll make the draw next friday, 10 July, after 6pm.

dropping in...

...to say hello!

Has it really been several weeks? I'd not intended to be away so long but you know how it is - life creeps up on you when you aren't looking. Real life things that need my time and attention. So this is a tentative wave really. The first of the month seemed like a good time to ease back in to the swing of things.

The photo was taken at a fabulous Midsummer Fair I went to a few weeks ago. I love wooden buildings, especially when the wood has faded with the elements to a beautiful soft silvery driftwood grey. In fact, a little wooden cabin in the middle of nowhere would suit me perfectly!


And on another note, I do have a little giveaway planned - some of my cards I made for the gocco swap. So back soon.
