Slowing down

Blogland is on a go slow at the moment - so many people are taking a break with children off from school, and holiday plans to fulfill. As my time is not governed by children and a conventional 9 - 5 working life I had every intention of carrying on blogging, business as usual. But in fact I can feel myself slowing down too. There's a gentler rhythm to my days and if I'm honest, a certain amount of laziness has crept in too. For me the school holidays means an influx of tourists, a general busy-ness around town, and increased traffic on the roads. Translate this as 'stay at home!'

I had vague thoughts of doing something different for August - I've been particularly inspired by Echoes - a collaborative journal, and the Echoes flickr pool. If you haven't come across this, go and have a look. There's some wonderful stuff here - sketches, words, watercolours... so much talent and imagination! So I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm just going to let August unfold... there may be fewer posts, probably less words, more photos, whatever comes up. Or not.

I have a particular love for rusty objects and things that are a bit worn out, decayed, battered. This old rusty table is in my garden, getting more beautiful as time goes by. I have nasturtians popping up all over the place, in various shades of orange - they're so cheerful and uplifting. So here's some rust and some nasturtians. They're making me smile!

I hope you're having fun out there and enjoying your summer!

I love nasturtiums too but I have never been very successful growing them. My mother, on the other hand, has them growing wild in her garden. It is that Cornish air!

I am not slowing down - last weekend the pace was too fast - we had visitors, steam rally to visit etc. Trouble is my wonky knees cannot cope with anything other than a gentle amble through life - so suffering today - will have to keep quiet!

Our nasturtiums have only just started coming on in the past few days. No flowers yet, but at least the leaves look lush and healthy! K x

I love rusty, rather battered things too and have resisted taking the Hammerite to our old bandstand chairs for that reason. The nasturtiums look lovely with the rust. Enjoy your more leisurely summer pace!

Beautiful photos Diana, I love rusty old things too and have rusty poles as plant supports in the garden. Please keep posting, yes blogland is slow, but we all have our favourite blogs and yours is one of mine. I am, how should I say, in between jobs, and like you have no children, so I have some spare time to carry on blogging. I would miss it, as I so enjoy the photography and writing it involves. I have had a peep into Echoes and there is lots of inspiration to be had. x

Will have a look in a mo Diana. Don't disappear too far will you? I'll miss your posts, though I know what you mean - very quiet out there in the land of blog isn't it? xx

My nasturtiums are really cheering me up too...they spring up all over my veg beds, brightening them up.
We're off to Wales on Friday - I can't wait...hoping to be invigorated...

I totally agree with you on the blogging front. I thought with more time on my hands I would post more but I am finding that I don't have much to say at the moment - in fact I thought about stopping altogether as the self imposed 'pressure' to blog was ruining my enjoyment of it. You are right to take things at your own pace - love your photos and the idea of post-cards - I really enjoy your blog so I hope you won't leave it too long between postsx

Not only do I find it a bit more quiet than usual.... several of the blogs I used to enjoy visiting now seem to have given way to entries about feeling depressed and blue...... hmmmm... what the heck is going on I wonder? I am like you...gotten a bit lazy...but in reality..just enjoying every minute of sunshine, the garden, watching the birds in their little bath... and the... well... lots of little things always interest me. It doesn't take much to keep me happy ...
