the red donkey

Late afternoon sun, driving home from a meeting, and a spark of red catches my eye in the field to my right. I had to stop. Who can resist taking a photo of a donkey wearing a red rug? Horses wear rugs, (the term rug, as opposed to blanket or coat, comes from the New Zealand Rug) but I've never seen a donkey in one. Even better that it's red.

I love donkeys. It's those beautiful furry ears.

I've always wanted a donkey but I don't think one would fit in the garden! I adore them.

Eeyore was very nearly happy with his red rug.

"I suppose somebody had one to give away, so I got it," he said morosely.

"It's a lovely colour," said Piglet.

"If you like colour," Eeyore replied.

Actually Eeyore was rather pleased because Christopher Robin had told him he looked debonair. Eeyore was not sure what that was, but Christopher Robin had said it meant you were quite the thing. ...

Aaaaawww......nice to see evidence of someone caring for him. Donkeys have a way of conveying that they have a very hard life, no matter what the truth is, but it's hard to pretend to be neglected when you're wearing a cosy, if slightly too big, red rug!

They're so cute as well! I love that they're really sociable and like to live with a 'friend'

I love friendly donkeys. the smell of them reminds me of donkey riding on the beach when I was little - 1 ride per day every day we were there!!

Oh he's very sweet. And obviously well-loved too to be kitted out with a blanket. I wonder if we could have a donkey on the plot...then again he might eat all the veggies... K x

odd to see a donkey in a rug.... perhaps he was elderly or recovering from an illness - generally they are hardy little souls...

Horses can be vaguely alarming at times but donkeys aren't capable of it . Certainly not when muffled up in red !
