the red donkey
Late afternoon sun, driving home from a meeting, and a spark of red catches my eye in the field to my right. I had to stop. Who can resist taking a photo of a donkey wearing a red rug? Horses wear rugs, (the term rug, as opposed to blanket or coat, comes from the New Zealand Rug) but I've never seen a donkey in one. Even better that it's red.

I love donkeys. It's those beautiful furry ears.

That is a very nice nice rug! I love the ears too...:) Donkeys always seem to have such sweet expressions, don't they?
it must be cold there because donkeys have nice thick coats of their own....love the red rug! He/She is a much loved donkey....lovely to see :-)
I love donkeys too, but they always look so sad...bless them...I love their ears too...that one looks like one in a story book I had as a child...hope you are well...Love H
I've always wanted a donkey but I don't think one would fit in the garden! I adore them.
what and eye for a picture you have Diana, this one is lovely, he looks so cosy in his red jacket.
Eeyore was very nearly happy with his red rug.
"I suppose somebody had one to give away, so I got it," he said morosely.
"It's a lovely colour," said Piglet.
"If you like colour," Eeyore replied.
Actually Eeyore was rather pleased because Christopher Robin had told him he looked debonair. Eeyore was not sure what that was, but Christopher Robin had said it meant you were quite the thing. ...
He looks like a sweet little soul. A lovely photo Diana.x
very sweet... i rode a donkey in the mountains in eygpt years ago ... looking back i think ... poor donkey!
Aaaaawww......nice to see evidence of someone caring for him. Donkeys have a way of conveying that they have a very hard life, no matter what the truth is, but it's hard to pretend to be neglected when you're wearing a cosy, if slightly too big, red rug!
They're so cute as well! I love that they're really sociable and like to live with a 'friend'
I love friendly donkeys. the smell of them reminds me of donkey riding on the beach when I was little - 1 ride per day every day we were there!!
Oh he's very sweet. And obviously well-loved too to be kitted out with a blanket. I wonder if we could have a donkey on the plot...then again he might eat all the veggies... K x
ee-yor-ways wears that :))
sorry, couldn't resist - he's cute! cx
What is it about donkeys, and especially ones in red coats, that makes me want to cry? Lovely photograph.
Yes, I know just what you mean. Have just been communing with donkeys myself -

Enjoyed your lovely post, thanks Helen
I want a donkey! And an alpaca...
odd to see a donkey in a rug.... perhaps he was elderly or recovering from an illness - generally they are hardy little souls...
drooling over the welsh cakes - yum
hope things are a little easier xxx

Horses can be vaguely alarming at times but donkeys aren't capable of it . Certainly not when muffled up in red !
What a sweet little donkey...he or she looks so cosy in that rug.
Thanks so much for the welsh cake recipe...I have some friends coming tonight for supper and I am going to make some right now.
xxx
from the donkeys I know...they definitely prefer warm to cold or wet.... I bet he loves his coat...
