A moment to pause

It's cold.

I yearn for frost, but it happens rarely down here. I shall have to wait until I go up country for christmas visiting. There's something so magical about the language of winter. There's a chill in the air along with piercing blue skies and long golden shadows from a sun hanging just above the horizon. The landscape is at its most exposed.

The trees are mostly bare, their silhouettes clearly defined. My walk in the woods yesterday was spent with my head tilted back, neck craning, seeing if I could find the exact spot where I took this photograph just over a year ago. Trying to see how much the trees had changed shape.

Pausing for a moment

Reminding myself of the beauty of trees. Of nature. And how good it feels to stand still for a while. Just looking. Just being.

I need to pause for a moment this week.

So many things needing my attention.

And a messy house, beyond messy in fact. And my Dad due in a few days for a visit. And a family emergency at the weekend which reminds me where my priorities lie.

Back in a few days when I've caught up.

Yes, nature is truly beautiful Diana, as are your photos. I love the way the trees seem to have lines forming between them. Hope everything is ok? Much love to you missus and get back to us soon xx

Its strange isn't it that it is only when something happens we really realise what is most important in life, great pics! x

Beautiful photos Diana really lovely , I particularly like the magical way in which you describe frost...I will try and remember that when I am scraping it off the car at 7am when I am late for school...bought some lovely fabric on sunday which I am going to use to line the book bag which I intend to make on saturday with my pebbledash fabric love and hugs

sweet Diana,
you just be gentle with yourself and try to take things easy. I know this is a difficult/busy time but pausing like on your walk is so neccessary. I walked the girls to school today and stopped to notice everything around me, as i have been rushing too much recently. There was a frost here... i shall post some photos of the frosty leaves for you at sweetmyrtle.
Lots of love to you
Ginny xx

Gorgeous photos Diana - We went around Westonbirt Arboritum a couple of years ago at Christmas when the trees are lit up and I spent most of my time looking upwards, until I nearly fell on my face over a root :0>

Hope the emergency is ok.

Kx

I remember that photo - so amazing the gaps between the trees... hope you get everything you need together in a way that makes you feel good... am in a bit of that place too, lots of loose ends to tie up and a house that is in the midst of a major clean & tidy!! xx

Lovely tree photos - the gaps between them look like partings in hair to me (but that could be because I spend ages each morning making plaits and pony tails).

Hope all goes well at the weekend.

Those photos are incredible!!!! I love them!! I love trees, there's nothing quite like trees to calm the spirits and help clarify the thoughts. I love how there looks to be "pathways" between the branches here. Fascinating. x

They've all beaten me to it - those trees are incredible. Are those neat lines/gaps really for real? I am a great one for lying on my back looking at trees but have never seen anything like that. Wow. Just wow.

As a New Englander, I appreciated your perspective on winter and frost. Come March it can feel a little "neverending" -- thanks for the different perspective. Be Well, and keep up the great photography! -Sandy

I have never seen photos in which it was so clear that each tree has a defined space.
The sky looks like a river running through the tree tops.
